It’s a term we’ve all seen but never fully understood. So what exactly is thread count? Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch of fabric. For example, 200 TC means that there are 200 horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch of fabric. It is often said that the better the quality of the fabric, the higher the thread count and generally this is the case. The higher the thread count, the smoother and softer the fabric is. However, be weary of companies that cheat the number with a double twist yarn. If you want quality and don’t mind splashing out, stick to more expensive bed linen. Not only will it last longer, the thread count and quality of the fabric is generally better. If you’re on a budget, don’t worry, a bed linen with a lower thread count can be just as comfortable if selected carefully.
