Why does world sleep day exist?

World sleep day was founded in 2007 and has since been a global event hosted by the World Sleep Society. This year marks the 13 annual international awareness day with over 70 countries participating. Annually it is held the Friday before Spring Vernal Equinox and this year this falls on the 13th March 2020.World Sleep Day not only celebrates sleep and its benefits however, it exists to highlight and create social change in regard to issues related to sleep in the world of education, medicine and social issues, as well as sleep issues affecting safe driving. It aims to create awareness and encourage interventions and preventions for sufferers of sleep disorders and problems. In previous years, World Sleep Day has attracted the attention of major news outlets and celebrities aswell as creating an online flurry on Twitter making #worldsleepday trend consistently for the past 3 years.

Sleep Experts, researchers and professionals wanted to emphasize the importance of sleep in well being and personal health. They felt that sleep was a largely ignored factor of well being and wanted to create an awareness about it and celebrate the importance of sleeping healthily. Most importantly, World Sleep Day aims to highlight This is why they created World Sleep Day.

How to celebrate World Sleep Day

The best way to celebrate World Sleep Day, is by embracing your sleep. Sleep as long as you want, without any guilt. At the end of the day, this is the day to celebrate sleeping.
