Bedroom Spring Clean

Start the new season the right way with a spring clean! Spring is in full swing and with the weather getting warmer, more and more of us have started our spring-cleaning routines.

Spring cleaning is a great way to freshen up your home and liven the spirits up before the sunny summer season begins. But you may be wondering? Where do I start? How do I spring clean? It can be overwhelming but that’s why we are here to share with you some of the best tips that will help you get your home gleaming and sparkling. We think that a great place to start is the bedroom. So here are some of the ways you can get started:

Start by decluttering:

Before you start any other form of cleaning, decluttering is essential and one of the best ways to kick start your spring cleaning. Reassessing your wardrobe can help you differentiate between what you wear and what you no longer want. Charity shops and donations are one of the best ways to ensure your clothes can be sustainably reused by others when they ae no longer in use by you.

If the seasons are changing, it may be worth rotating your seasonal clothing by packing away your winter clothes and restocking your wardrobe with summer wear. Make sure you safely and securely pack your winter clothes away in the correct manner to prevent any damage from occurring. This is also a good time to assess whether any changes to storage methods need to be made. Ottoman boxes and ottoman storage beds are great interior pieces to add a touch of glamour but they also double up as hidden storage.

Dust and wipe down!

Cleaning down all of your surfaces. Dusting is often overlooking but is essential if you want a full deep clean of your home. It’s also very crucial in preventing allergies so get wiping and dusting Remember to also dust the light fixtures, lampshades, blinds and any artwork. Start up at the highest points of the room before working your way down to prevent spreading dust to areas you’ve already cleaned. If you have a handheld vacuum, they work a charm with dusting. Wipe down your walls, skirting boards and any surfaces. The best cleaning solution for these tasks is some good old dish soap and warm water but feel free to use other cleaning solutions (make sure you check that they are suitable or that surface). It always works a charm. Use some glass cleaner to clean the mirrors, any windows and glass frames.

Focus on the floor!

Now it’s time to give the floor a good spring clean. This includes, hard floors, carpet and any rugs. Start by giving everything a good hoover before moving onto anything else. If possible, move any obstructing furniture and hoover underneath them. You will be surprised by how much gunk can be found beneath them. If you have a hard floor, follow the vacuuming up with a mop. You can use a steam mop or a regular manual mop to get the job done. Remember to use a pH balanced cleaner for any wooden floors. Carpets and rugs are a little bit more challenging, but with the right tools or contacts, the job can be made very easy. We often do not give rugs and carpets a second thought when cleaning but it’s very important to thoroughly clean them due to the bacteria that they can harbour.  Hiring out a carpet cleaning machine or bringing in a professional carpet cleaning company can make the job less tedious and grueling.

Clean your bed

Mattresses are the most forgotten piece of furniture we own. An average person spends about 26 years of their life sleeping with around 8 hours per day spent on our mattresses. Some people can sweat up to 2 liters of sweat over the period of 8 hours during the night most of which is absorbed by our mattresses. Not to mention, we continuously shed dead skin cells. These are only a few of the reasons why it is necessary that we clean our mattress. You can clean a mattress yourself using some vinegar and baking soda. Spray some distilled white vinegar over the any stains on the mattress and let sit for 15 minutes before soaking up the vinegar using some paper towels. This step with vinegar can be missed if you wish. Next sprinkle baking soda over the mattress and let it sit for at least an hour and half. The longer it sits the better. This will draw up any dirt and odour. Finally, vacuum the baking soda up. You can also alternatively hire a professional mattress cleaner. Remember, if your mattress is over 7 years old, it may be well worth considering an upgrade to a new mattress. Choosing the correct mattress for you is key and that's why at bed arena we have an amazing range of mattresses that are easy to maintain and great to sleep on.
